TSReader Professional supports live mosaic playback using VLC. It does this by using the UDP Forwarder function to setup individual streams for each of the programs within the mux and by then writing a configuration file that is then passed onto VLC.

VLC is currently at version 2 and this handles playback for many different codecs and is the recommended playback app for TSReader. However the VLC developers have broken the mosaic function in this version. In order for the mosaic function to operate correctly, VLC version 1.1 needs to be installed along with the current version 2 for playback of single streams.

These steps should be followed to install both versions of VLC.

      C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC (for 32-bit Windows)
      C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC (for 64-bit Windows)

  • Rename the VLC folder name to VLC11.
  • Download and install the latest VLC from http://www.videolan.org
  • Launch TSReader Pro and click Playback/VLC/Settings and ensure that TSReader Pro's VLC mosaic option points to the 1.1 version and the VLC playback option points to the latest version.

You will now be able to play mosaics with VLC 1.1 and single video channels with audio using the latest VLC. If VLC 1.1 asks you to update (or check for updates), ignore these offers.
